We first tested to see if the ankle would bend properly by applying gentle pressure to the foot, simulating a normal foot/leg position relative to the ground.

Since that went well, we figured it wasn't a deformed bone but rather a tendon, ligament or muscle issue that was forcing the foot into an incorrect position.

We fashioned "chick shoes" from this design: http://www.peafowl.org/ARTICLES/1/j but modified the design to include a small length of pipe cleaner going up the leg, that would form a leg brace that kept the ankle in correct position and the toes all spread evenly.

Surgical tape kept slipping off so we used the sticky part of elastic cloth band-aids cut into thin strips and would it around the leg and pipe cleaner.

I wish I had taken pics, it would be easier to explain!

Baby chick is running around this morning, jumping and rolling about JUST like her sisters and brothers, it's a beautiful thing!!

I had a chick with curled feet, taping didn't work, added vitamins to the water and gave her branches, at 11/2 weeks you can't tell other then she's a tiny bit smaller then the others, her legs are strong and straight now.
