Hi, i bought some swine/poultry de-wormer called "pig-swig" is this ok to use for pigeons? maybe reduce the dosage? it was the only deworming stuff the had at the feed store.
thanks -cochingurl

piperazine monohydrochloride... i think i spelled it right, the letters were realy small, lol.

Piperazine is not really a good wormer,it doesn't kill the worms it only paralyzes them,a lot don't pass so the bird is still infested.I would recommend ivermectin or quest,or even Wazine 17 but it only works on certain kinds of worms.

thanks so much for your quick reply! do you have to order it off the net or can you buy it at a feed store?

You can get it at TSC,Big R,Rural king or any of the other large chain stores.I would recommend Quest,it is effective on all worms except tapeworm, and also effective against external parasites, mites ect. When you find the stuff let me know and i'll give you the proper dosage and mixing instructions.

BTW,it's a horse wormer.

Ivermectin injectable for swine is a very effective and safe wormer for pigeons. For a pigeon like a homer you would give it 2 drops from an eyedropper down it's throat. This would work out to be about .10mL of a dose. It kills most types of internal worms and also will kill several external parasites too.
