Dead Chick!

I put incubated eggs under my broody hen, and I guess one hached while I was away. I found it a foot from the nest, out of its shell, perfectly developed and dead. There where no peck marks, and it was cold. I put rest of eggs in incubator, HELP!!!

It looks like it may have gotten out from under the hen while hatching and froze to death.

I thought the egg might have rolled out and got stepped on, cause the shell is crushed.

It isn't quite developed all the way, see the yolk sac attached to the back end? That is a deformity. The hen probably kicked it out of the nest because it wasn't strong enough to live.

Those are just bad pics. The yolk sac is totally absorbed, that’s the membrane and umbilical cord. It probably doesn’t help that I threw it away before realizing I should take pics.

No. She hached 7 standard eggs like a boss last year. She actually won the broodies and their babies photo contest.
