Dead chicks

I keep finding dead chicks in crushed shells under hen, help please

Do the other hens have access to the broody nest? I've found that layers are drawn to the broody nest to lay their egg because hens naturally love to lay their egg in a nest full of eggs.

The problems with allowing this is that eggs get trampled by this traffic and they break. Another problem is that newer eggs may get mixed into the lot and a staggered hatch results. This presents more problems. But I'll leave it at that.
