Deceased chicken - did a quick and inexperienced necropsy - what is this?

Went to check on everyone and collect eggs in the afternoon and found one of my leghorns dead lying in her side in the floor. I have no idea what happened and thankful that the other hens didn't try to eat her. I'm pretty observant of them, so it's weird to me that I would miss someone being on deaths door.

I opened her up quickly to see if I could see anything overtly wrong but the only thing I found weird was this cyst-type thing. Crop looked normal to me. No trauma or anything that I could see and air way appeared open.

Not the best pictures or best necropsy, was quick and didn't have the right tools.

Thanks for your advice.

The fluid filled sac looks like Cystic Right Ovary. Do you have respiratory disease in your flock?
What did the ovum look like?
Intestines look off in color and bloated, could have been strangled due to pressure in the abdomen due to the cyst, but hard to know.
Just my 2¢

Thanks!

I was thinking that was an cyst in the repro tract. There hasn't been any obvious slowing of laying in the flock other than the bantam hens who stopped laying for about 2 months, and respiratory symptoms have mostly disappeared. I ended up treating my bantam hens with injectable oxytet and they resolved nicely.

I'm not sure how long she was deceased for as I was away for the day. I checked them at 9 AM and then found her at 4:30 PM, so I assumed the discolouration was just due death. Nothing seemed twisted or pinched and there was substance in the intestine (accidentally poked, whoops).

Crop didn't smell, wasn't fluidly, or distended.

Everyone is bright and alert and doing normal chicken things from what I can observe. I'm hoping it was one of those random "chickens just die" things (which I know there is always an actual reaso , but 🤷‍♀️).

Thank you for your 2c, always appreciated to have your insight!
