December Hatch-A-Long 2014

I have 4 chick hatch today, 20 others in lockdown. Bummed that I will be away from evening tonight to mid morning tomorrow hope all will be well while I'm away.
They will be fine---they can hatch without you viewing through the window----LOL. Just make sure the water is good. Most days I only check on mine once a day---even when they are hatching-----they do not need me!!

I could just about cry, I don't know what happened where.  I candled one of the eggs since I hadn't seen any action in several hours and saw it had quit so I grabbed another, it had died too.  Then I had to go through all of them and I lost 43 of 80. I kept my temp right, my humidity was steady, I'm just floored.  This is the first time I've lost one after lock down and I lost more than half.  I don't think I'll try the Christmas hatch again...it's going to take an awful lot of cookies to put me in a better mood.

I had have the same exact thing happen twice. In not sure what the deal is  Sorry about those eggs :(

Am heartbroken for you! I know that experienced hatchers are probably used to such things but it pulls at the heart strings of this newbie!

Thanks guys. I've come to terms with it. I left the bators dry till lockdown like I've always done but this is my first winter hatch and I didn't take into account the lack of moisture in the air. My house is over 100 years old and it's incredibly drafty so during the warm months it's always moist in here so I've never had an issue. I have 10 still cooking for tomorrow hatch and 47 more hatching Sunday and I've up'ed the moisture and set up the humidifier in the room and I'll just have to watch it more closely. Rookie mistake I suppose, not one I'll make again that's for sure! Cookies surely helped!! Good luck guys!!

Status update: Went and had dinner with some family, had 3 external pips when I left and had a feeling I would miss them. Two of them hatched while I was away, and the other is taking his sweet time. That makes six so far and one on the way. Both of my Ameraucanas have now hatched and I'm excited about this one because it's blue!!! Will keep you guys posted as the rest follow. Congrats to everyone else having successful hatches, and my condolences to the ones lost. Everyone have a Merry Christmas if I don't get a chance to post for a couple days, have a feeling I'll be busy tomorrow.
