December Hatch-A-Long 2014

Sad news. :'( I have a defective chick hatched. I don't know what it is but she is just laying in one side and can't get up. The rest are looking alright at this point. Couldn't tell how many are out but I'd guess around a half.
I had one that couldn't get up. I think he had a very long, difficult hatch. He couldn't stand without help. He also "clicked" when he took a breath. I think he got some fluid in his lungs. It took two days before he finally could stand and walk on his own. There was a point where I thought he wouldn't walk at all. I had to make a nest and keep him upright in a little tuperware container so the other chicks wouldn't peck him. By day 3 he wanted to to be with the other chicks and held his own. Before he was eating and drinking on his own I fed him electrolytes from a syringe. After all that effort, the grew up to be a cockerel of course! He's still smaller than the other chicks but is now looking normal for his age. Best of luck with yours! I hope she's just tired out.

I have 14 in incubator #1 that are Dec.25 hatch date. Candled last night and all looked good, keeping my fingers crossed that there won't be any changes before lockdown on December 22nd.

Yay!!! Good to hear. Good luck! I'm so excited I can't stand it. I never knew it would be like this when I got my first six, just a "few" birds ago lol
