my little silkie that I helped hatch is dying. she was fine earlier this evening. I went to check on everyone and found her lying with her legs stuck out and gasping. Ive tried to give her water with nutria drench but she won't drink. I knew something had to be wrong cause she is more than half the size of the others. which is why she has been kept separate

I am so sorry...I know how upsetting that can be.

.I had a little assisted Belgium quail bantam that did the same thing on me on day 9...found her lying on her side at 3 am...she passed about 1 pm the next afternoon. Cried my butt off!
I really hope she makes it for you. How do your assisted hatches go? Do most of them survive?

I had four off the sizzle hatch and were two very different sizes...one of the smaller ones passed (He was assisted).

Any advice for first time dry hatch? I'm so anxious about it! I am hatching bantam cochin eggs that were shipped and I remember reading somewhere that dry hatching can improve hatch rates for eggs with detached cells. I also have the in a carton with the air cell up because of the detached cells in 6 out of 14 eggs. I dont have a hydrometer so I have no idea about my humidity but my thermometer reads 99.5.

Any advice is welcome!!

Sorry I missed your post...I hatch shipped eggs and each batch arrives with a few to most all detatched. Set them on the counter to rest when you get them large end up for 24 hours. I set them in the incubator in cartons. I don't turn them until day 4...I have done it before waiting until day 8 and turning from the get go. They are difficult because some times the air cell doesn't attach...and some times it does.

There is a section in the Hatching 101 on here that talks of shipped eggs. give it a read through if you have not found it yet. You might want to pick up a hydrometer unless you are working with a brinsea or something with it built in.

Good luck with this! :)

she passed last night. my assisted marans are doing fine. they are still huge too. little fat chicks lol

my goodness what a mess! So last night at about 2 am I finally make my way to the incubators which I haven't loooked at a a fre days. Being sick. My grandma has been chucking and updating me with how thing are looking but mostly "so cute, a few more can out" . So look and it is a nasty mess. Most eggs were hatched but the ones that aren't are covered in egg remains, it dried up on them and other eggs glued to them. One is peeping but looks like he has been peeping for a long time and he is almost out but the shell is dried to his body. I don't even think I can wait till the end of the day to day to have 22 complete days , should gather all my strength and take it all apart. So upset :(

if you can raise your humidity up a lot. it will help the stuck ones. also, if you don't want to assist hatch you could at least place a warm wet paper fowl under the ones that are stuck
X2 bump it up enough for the viewing window to stay foggy for a few hours before you give up hope. Has she been adding water and checking readings for you also? What is their humidity?

the humidity has been super high since they went on lockdown. Like 90-100%. But what about "don't openyour bator while on lock down"?
