December Hatch-A-Long 2014

Oh my gosh, we have our first pip! Egg #12 is pipped and we heard peeping. I'm so excited. I dunno if I'll be able to go to sleep tonight! :)

So exciting! Can't wait to hear how your hatch goes.

Best to go to bed since it can take 12 hours or more for the chick to hatch. Remember...Santa doesn't come if you are awake. hahaha

Another update: the chick who had a bloody pip still hasn't zipped but I also see blood in the shell too so Im not gonna mess with it. It kind of looks like it pipped below the air cell cause I can see a membrane above it move when it breathes. One of my marans eggs was pipped this morning too...not the one I saw wiggling though lol

Hi everyone! So sorry I havn't been back on to update. So much to read and catch up on! I've been so busy with the animals, my daughter and xmas :) Anyways my hatch was the worse one I've had but it happens. Not sure what to blame it all on since so many factors but anywhere from too high humidity, to many eggs, not good, healthy genetics to old eggs. I have 13 chicks all doing good. 1 chick has bad feet, not curled toes but actually the foot, it walks like a duck...lol Another has a bad tendon in stifle area but is getting along and maybe even seems better. All others are pretty little chicks, a couple look like seramas and 2 have feathers on the legs. I have 4 mixed eggs and 7 red sex link eggs on lock down due Sunday :) I will do my best to get some pictures up soon. Good luck to all and hope everyone has happy chicks!

Congrats! Sorry to hear your hatch wasn't as successful as you'd hoped. I just had one too... :(
Good luck with your hatch on Sunday.....don't forget the pics!

There are the two membranes in there outer and inner...If you read through the assisted hatching thread on here I think it helps illustrate the vessel recession pretty well. It really helped me out!

Good luck with your marans! Did you have splash in there too??? Did any of them hatch?

So if i understand right...my Hovabator has a thermostat, but i have to get it where it turns on and off at 100... which i have, overnight, nice and steady....now when i place the eggs in, it will drop, but come back up because i have the setting locked with the wing-nut....i shouldn't have to readjust it right?!!! ....also i 'm doing a dry hatch until lock down (the humidity is so high with all the rain)...ok...i'm almost ready to put my 6 eggs in
