December Hatch-A-Long 2014

I woke up to a pip right above the air cell line. It's not breathing or anything. Why could it of died? I'm not opening the Bator unless it starts to smell, or maybe it's not dead?

I had 2 yesterday I couldn't tell they were breathing. They were hatched when I got up this morning so about 12-16 hours after they pipped. I wouldn't worry quite yet.

I've got 27 out now and I was expecting to get a few more pips over night but nothing as of yet. We still have a lot more that need to start showing some action, I'm starting to get anxious! Waiting and not knowing what's going on in those shells is making me a little crazy! Merry Christmas Eve guys!!

Good Luck---I also put about 35(Small batch this week) into lock-down too!!

Well I just took them out today(day 22)--There were 3 or 4 eggs I did not feel would hatch but I put them in lock-down anyway(did not count them either)----they all hatched except for the ? ones even 2 bantam eggs----------We were at the Auction and if they open a crate of chickens for sale and it has a egg in it that the chickens have layed(I wonder about this some time---LOL) they lay them on a shelf---My Sweet Wife went and ask if she could have the 2 eggs while I was loading---she brought them to me and said here is the two eggs---hatch them---I asked her if she had any idea--or remembered what breed the bantam was in the box----Nope---LOL---They hatched----both were small eggs but one was so small it would go right through the turner---I had to form a cup to hold it. Now we got 2 bantams hatched---have no idea what they are yet----both are small but the one smaller is so small it can not be with the other full size chicks---shoot they could step across it---LOL. I left the small one in the hatcher because it was not dry enough---it hatched late--I want to make sure it gets its strength built up before I got to do My Next Project-------if it is ok-----I got to go fix a separate brooder for the 2 bantams---the little one is about 1/3rd the size of the other bantam but those two can keep each other company. I am thinking to keep this brooder heated for a few weeks that I should not have more than $20 in electricity----maybe when they get a few weeks old I might could sell them for $2 each---LOL---the things I do For My Dear Wife!!!

I could just about cry, I don't know what happened where. I candled one of the eggs since I hadn't seen any action in several hours and saw it had quit so I grabbed another, it had died too. Then I had to go through all of them and I lost 43 of 80. I kept my temp right, my humidity was steady, I'm just floored. This is the first time I've lost one after lock down and I lost more than half. I don't think I'll try the Christmas hatch again...it's going to take an awful lot of cookies to put me in a better mood.

Hopefully it's not dead, sometimes they rest after pipping up to a day. You're right don't open the incubator yet!

15 eggs, 13 definite movement at lockdown candling, one chick hatched day 20, now half way into day 22 nothing. I'm not touching them yet incase of a late hatch but not looking good. What in the world would cause them to die during lockdown? The lone chick that hatched is very tiny even for a Silkie.

I have 4 chick hatch today, 20 others in lockdown. Bummed that I will be away from evening tonight to mid morning tomorrow hope all will be well while I'm away.

We've got one little guy with an issue, cant seem to get his legs under to get himself up.they are not spraddle, just can.t get it moving in the right direction. I'm giving enough time to get dry & stabilize before I see if I can help.
16 hatched couple more pips.
