December hatch-along

Sounds like u have done your reserch good temperature, 45-50 humidity and patience lol. As far as what day, the eggs will hatch three fridays from the 2nd at the same time u put them on give or take a half a day.

Thanks @cocker. We're getting used to seeing nothing on the day 7 candling because of the supermarket eggs. So looking forward to seeing something alive in there this Friday night.

I find it best to see all the veins in the egg on the third day only then it kinda disappears after that and the chick begins to form

We candled again today and saw the little embryos swimming. Today is day 9! We were able to see into the 2 Crested Cream Legbar eggs and the Dominique egg. Our 2 Olive Eggers are too dark to see through, but I hope everything is developing nicely. This is our first hatch and I am just as excited as my kids. I hope to get some crests and fluffy cheeks when these babies hatch.

3rd day is okay to candle? I'm trying to be extra careful and only opening when necessary.

The little veins are developing and easily damaged until about 7 days. If you just can't stand it, candle them in the incubator without moving them around too much. People usually wait until day 7. I rarely take mine out of the incubator to candle. Too much risk of messing something up, like dropping the egg. Starting after day 7 a cooling period is helpful to the eggs. That could be your candling time.

Ive never had any stop at day three and i candle them three or four times a day for the first three days. 60 percent hatch rate. I guess its just an opinion lol

@cree57i Thanks for the advice. There's a "cooling period" after day 7? I didn't know that the target temperature changed at all throughout the whole hatch.

Ah I think I see what you mean, the cooling period during the short time you spend candling?
