December hatch along

Pics
2018 has been another chicken learning year. At one point, I had almost 175 chickens - those numbers are way down due to a couple of "freak incidents" both before & after storm(s)
Way too many storms here in NC, although I believe you got hit much worse with the Hurricanes than I did, We barely dried out from the 2 hurricanes (Tropical Depressions by the time they got to me but so much rain) and then we were hit with a slush blizzard, never dried out from the then 3 days of heavy rain as it finished melting. Friday we are going to start out 8 of 10 days of rain. I am going to need to make dust bathing bins for the chickens because there is no where to dust bathe due to flooding. The path I walk when I check on all the breeding pens is so muddy that I still sink down 6 inches in the mud. Its never been like that here, its always been thick sod but that is gone now. 2018 has been the learning the hard way year for me. Its also the year I learned how to work an Incubator.

I’m hoping to be moved to the country by June of next year give or take a few months and then I will be up and hatching again hopefully working on a breeding project I’ve been reasearching it will be hard the first couple of generations but then it should level out and I’ll see if I can make it happen

Lost 4 on day one to a freak accident with my turners
Then had 4 early losses

On lock down we had 19 eggies
I we got 13 chicks (#13 is little)

We had 1 hatch that had an incomplete scull so it’s Brain was bulgy and showing upon hatch and it wasn’t moving much, we culled it after we gave it love and gave it praise for a job well done getting out of its shell.

We lost two mid hatch

So from start to finish we had roughly 50% hatch rate.

But from lockdown to hatch we had a 68% hatch rate

I feel pretty good about my hatch they are super cute!

So I’ve always called my chickens raptors but I’m wondering why the Dino’s in the brooder?
