December Hatch:Who is going to have Christmas babies?

Congrats to all the new babies!!

I have had an unusual hatch this time around. 3 hatched on Saturday, 3 hatched on Sunday, 2 hatched Monday morning, 3 more hatched Monday late night. I have not had a hatch so far apart. I still have 7 eggs in the incubator, I am afraid to take them out in case I have even more late bloomers.

And my broody just hatched one this morning! She has 2 more to go.

So, I pulled all the unhatched quail eggs from the incubator, and cracked them open. Its kinda sad to see that two more had chicks (are baby quail chicks? will need to look this up) that just did not hatch, and several that looked like some sort of exotic egg dish. and they don't smell pleasant either

I candled the chicken eggs right before lockdown and we had movement, so I'm hoping these will hatch as well, and give the lone quail baby some company. If the quail baby lives to reach maturity we'll need to get it a partner

My %&$^ cat, knocked my NEW incubator off the counter! There was 1 chick that just hatched about 2 hours before and 5 eggs. The chick is alive for now. The eggs as you can see are in bad shape. 1 (in the middle) I am sure is dead. The membrane is broke. The other 4 the membrane is intact but there is no movement yet. *sigh* I quick stuck them in a basket and put them in my homemade incubator that has duck eggs in it, so good temp and 47% humidity. I do not have much hope for them. Thank God I took the other 9 chicks out of the incubator this AM.
The incubator has been cleaned up and turned back on. Hope it did not break!

You might consider putting a damp paper towel over the eggs, to prevent the membranes from drying out, and possibly increasing your humidity a little bit...just a thought...

Mine are due on Christmas too!

Sadly I have had to throw out some clears and some quitters, but I have high hopes for the remaining eggs.

I peek at them with a flashlight when I turn the eggs and it makes me super happy when I see the moving in there! I worry constantly about temperature fluctuation.

Yeah...thats what I did. Still not seeing or hearing anything. Haven't gotten my nose off the glass since I put them back in. So sad.
On a happier note....the dropped chick seems to be doing ok.
