Decided on a duck! Here she is!----Another quick question!

That's what I was thinking.

My Pekin hen just started laying a month or two ago and she still lays double yolkers about 50% of the time, so I know what you mean!

I couldn't imagine trying to raise ducklings in the winter, so I was thinking the same thing. I'll let you know when we get a bator set up, and the weather around here gets warmer and we'll see how your girls are doing!

Thanks again!

Small world, it turns out Isolde (my soon to be Saxony hen's current owner) is a fellow BYC'er!

Thanks Kansaseq!

Holy cow! I didn't know ducks laid colored eggs too!

I'd love green duck eggs! What an awesome find on craigslist.

Do duck eggs come in any other colors?

Oh yeah! My Pekins lay white eggs, but I know some breeds lay brown and blue. You want to see really cool eggs, Google "Cayuga eggs", they are a neat speckled black!

Small world, indeed; Should have known I was talking to a BYC'er! It's good to know Isolde will be going to a good home

I bought her from a woman on CL in Paola, along with a Silver Appleyard, and a Sax drake. No longer have either of them, as I'm switching over to WH's. Was shocked at how quickly 'someone' answered my ad! Was almost hoping no one would so I would 'have' to keep her.

But I'm thrilled she's going to such a great home!

Interesting because it is considered a fault in breeding when the eggs are not white. The German standard calls for white eggs. I've checked on Holderreads bulletin and he states the same for the US and British standards. I have to admit I find green eggs cool, and I do not know why yours are green. I think it is a genetic throwback to the mallard line in them. Have to ask CityChicker who is more into genetics. I've noticed that the drake has brown in it's head colors, but I think it could be still the juvenile plumage which does get better with the second molt.
