Deconstruction begins - Warning some graphic pictures

Ahh Yes!
Skulls.. So cool.
We live on a 1/2 long dead end road. We have a gate, which hangs deer bones and a deer skull. (Think bone wind chimes.)

Lets just say most people driving around "sight seeing" turn around at the gate, and do not come up to the house..

I would too. I Love it when My hubby brings these Home from work for me! yeah I'm cheap to gift for i guess lol I always see tons of potential in scrap wood like this.

I keep a whole stack of pallets on the back forty. They have proven handy to have many, many times. You never know how many uses you can get out of them until you have a stack available to use when needed.

I love the skull. I collect animal skulls, too. They make for great conversation pieces.

The pallets would make a great enclosure for a compost heap. You could put the front part on with hinges so you could swing it open to work on it. I am going to do that, and am considering having that in our new chicken run we will be building. I always read that chickens love to root and scratch through compost and do a great efficient job of turning it. Sounds like a win-win-win!

Totally sounds like something I would do! Love the idea of building a compost bin with them.

I have the skull now degreasing in dawn and ammonia, few days to a few weeks then into peroxide to whiten and it should be museum quality bright white.

What's everyone's thoughts on insulation? I'm in MT so it does get cold, but if They can handle low temps I would rather save money and time

Don't you love it when things freak people out like that?

My husband put up a sign on our gate as a joke. It says "No Trespassing - Trespassers will be shot, Survivors will be shot again" The Jehovah Witnesses don't come around anymore.

Mine is tight with R38 ceiling and R19 walls. -30 last winter it was around 20 in the coop. (I do not like to collect eggs every five min. to keep them from freezing.)

So I would say put in as much as you can afford and spend as much time as you can allow.. I personally would rather insulate well and not have to heat.

CM, good thing I never saw that show... I might freak my self out....

A cool Decor item for the head skull. It's a Bit Macabre. You can get a 3/4 ft post and mount it on top of a square of 2x2 board.DH didn't like my display too much when I put up one of a dried coon skull a few years ago surrounded by flower's at my old silkie coop.I had the post painted and everything.Kinda like a Critter Beware Sign.I once nailed a coon tail to my Bantam's coop door. And DH did retrive that one from that coon for me.
