Hello! My showgirl chicken got a cut on her shoulder and you can see the fat layer. We don't know if she cut herself on the fence or if her brother pecked her. does anyone have advice.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

I'd slather on some antibiotic ointment (without any "caine/cain") ingredients. Repeat this every day until it looks better. Watch out for any signs of infection; if you see any, treat with antibiotics. I think that your chicken will heal fine, as chickens have a remarkable ability to heal themselves.

    Good luck! [IMG]

Ouch!! I don't know much about anything but all i know is that she might have to get stitches if its that deep. how long is the cut? if its long then she would have cut herself on a fence. if its small then it could have been her brother, though i have never heard of a chicken actually doing that much damage to another. unlikley for a chicken to peck that deep.

Stop the chicken from moving that part of the body because she'll stretch the cut. keep the wound together and use a bandage to hold together the cut while it heals. Hoped I helped![IMG]
