deer processor prices..

I will do my next one myself. 3 of took our 3 deer to a processor near town to have them processed, wrapped and froze. One deer weighted 115 one 128 and mine was 235 all hanging weight. When we went to pick them up there where 3 boxes with all the same cuts all the same size. I asked about quantities and the butcher said they where all the same. What can you do. No proof other than what we all new. I will never have one done by someone else again. People around here process out of their garage during hunting season. No one has to be licenced. Time to change the rules. We paid 75 dollars a deer.

crookedstripe, by "time to change the rules" I hope you didn't mean more laws.. we have too many laws and rules already.. I would rather take my chances with the occasional crook .. somebody who cheats you out of meat will not stay in business long.. what you have to do is tell everyone you can about what happened to your meat.. once word gets around he won't have any more business..

If I run into a dispute with a business of any kind, I tell the business manager/owners what I am going to do.. and then if we cannot come to an agreement, I carry out my promise..

not to defend but to defend i guess. where i work i have seen someone with a large deer not bring much home, because they have shot it up. not saying you, please don't take that wrong. i am just saying some have brought there deer in with 3 slugs in it and wonder why they didn't get much meat back. so there is a couple ways for it to happen. i think you will be much happier knowing you did it. from my post before, i work there and still did my husbands for him, at home.
jvls1942 is right, word of mouth can kill him.
good job on the big deer btw

I'm sure that's often the case. I've seen some awfully mangled carcasses.

However, if you have 3 deer, as posted above, "one weighed 115, one 128, one 235, all hanging weight. When we went to pick them up there where 3 boxes with all the same cuts, all the same size.......the butcher said they were all the same," it seems very unlikely that all three would turn out cut the same, and weighing exactly the same. That's 120 lbs. difference between the largest and the smallest. But they weighed the same after processing? There'd be some variation, unless the coincidence was extraordinary. And if it was because the big one was badly mangled, how'd they get all the same cuts? In that case, something's not quite right. The processor appears to be taking great liberties with customers' meat. Mixing it together at the very least, shorting at least some, either adding to it to smaller carcasses, or keeping some for himself. If keeping some is part of the deal, or if meat from different animals will be included, that should be disclosed and agreed upon, up front. Otherwise, it's fraudulent, and possibly a health risk.

You may have observed that the deer you shot was lively and looked alert and healthy, but do you know for sure that some guy down the road didn't shoot one that looked sick? How about knowing how careful Joe Blow was when he field dressed his deer? How long it was in his truck?

I want my own meat back. That's why we dress our own.
