The stables smelled richly of horse manure and hay, along with the funky odor of sweat. It was mostly silent, save for a few soft snorts and William's voice. When one first walked into the stable his voice could not be heard and mostly blended into the heavy breathing of the horses. The Duke brushed down his stunning black stallion, occasionally running a hand over it's glossy coat.

Ekkehardt came into the stables as well, taking his tall bay mare from her stall to have her brushed down. "Evening, William," he said while passing the Duke.

"Hmm?" William said, coming out of his dream like state. "Ah, yes, hullo Ekkehardt." He replied cheerfully, finishing up his horses grooming.
