Delaware x Barred Rock Chicks--Indy, Rex and Ira's Progress Thread

Well here are pics I took this am of Iggy. He impressed me at a week old when he "clucked" trying to give me his treats and then again at about 15 days old when I put new hatchlings in with him and he began showing them food and water and calling them. But he really impressed about 10 days ago at a tad over three weeks old...his brooder is in my daughter's bedroom and she had a severe asthma attack during the night. Iggy woke me by alarming. I went in because I had never heard a chick make that sound and thought something was wrong....he was alarming pacing and watching Cheyenne...then I heard her gasping. He is very very smart and unless his temperament went to hell he stays here always.

Here is my boy

Wonder when Indy is going to grow into his legs and head? Rex and Ira are almost identical, with a very refined head and the usual sex link looking plumage, just that Rex is larger. Indy is going to be HUGE, I think. And Deacon doesn't look like any of them.

This is Deacon with Delia. I still think he could be the son of one of the BBS Rock hens, since I have blue, black and splash and he could have gotten the barring from his sire. Scott got some blue barred hens from Isaac's brother over blue Rock hens so why not black barred males and females? Note his leg color, too. That surprised me.

Adding more pictures to the above, five days later, starting with their daddy, Isaac, sweet old man he is:

Starting with pictures above of Deacon and looking at these I took today, what the heck is the deal with this male? He has white legs, slat-sided skinny as a Leghorn, just doesn't sound or act or have the body type of any of Indy, Rex or Ira. I don't have any skinny brown egg layers in that flock other than Tiny, the Ameraucana with Sumatra heritage, who also has white skin, coincidentally.

This is Ira, who about two weeks older than Deacon.

Rex, who is about four days older than Ira and almost identical. I can only tell them apart by size and comb.

Indy and Rex. Indy is like a dinosaur compared to the others!

Today's pictures of Indy. He is just a giant youngster at 18 weeks, fully as tall as his dad, with a head almost as large, much larger than either of his slightly younger brothers, and of course, he has that barring that belies the fact that he's a cross of two breeds.

Bad pic--got him as he was starting to turn due to my slow shutter speed on this camera.

Rex:

Rex's lookalike brother, Ira, who I have finally decided I am rehoming after letting them grow out some more. Just can't keep this many males and I have a young one who is a month old that looks like a pure Delaware so far that I would like to keep. He is not a Rock cross, but is a DelaWyanCauna, lol.

Ira

This is the little guy I would like to keep, Gabriel. He is 1/2 Delaware, 1/4 BLRW and 1/4 BBS Ameraucana and full of personality.

I posted a few in a Plymouth Rock thread with pics of my Stukel Rock hens; Was only trying for Indy yesterday, but I think you'll see some filling out and maturing on his part in these photos.

He has one half black tail sickle that came in, otherwise, all fully barred so far.
