Delaware x Barred Rock Chicks--Indy, Rex and Ira's Progress Thread

You can see the silver V-eed(Dominique type) sex feathers starting to emerge in his(Indy's) hackles and wingbows he is going to be a pretty son of a gun at around the 6-8 mo. area for sure.

I agree. They'll both be handsome guys, for sure. Both so far have their dad's calm temperament going for them, too. Hope that stays the same. Isaac's sons usually are fairly smart males, too, another thing I love about them.

Thank you, Robin. That is one trait that I do breed for. To me, that is just as much part of the standard for a Delaware as any physical trait. The BR mothers are sweet as well, so these boys have it on both sides of the family. A rooster does NOT have to be human aggressive to be a good breeder and flock protector.

Thats so true.

Here is the one I hatched here....Isaac is daddy but Wynette is the mother. This is "Iggy"

I'll look forward to progress pictures of Iggy. Here are some of Indy, Rex, Ira (who looks remarkably like Rex other than size), Deacon, Delia and of course, Raven, who is not a Del-Rock cross.

I've decided to keep Ira for awhile to see how he develops and get him closer to maturity. I may decide to rehome a different one entirely, depending on how temperament and personality show themselves.

First six pictures are all Indy and Rex, who hang together most of the time. Indy is 15 weeks, Rex 13 1/2 wks.

Ira and Raven. Raven is 14 weeks, Ira 13 wks. First one has Indy in the background.

That is Deacon fussing with a D'Anver cockerel in the background of this next pic.

Deacon and Delia, who are now 11 weeks old--forgive poor dad Isaac's bare neck. Dottie just now cut them loose and is laying again. Raven's mother, Tiny, picks at him constantly, poor guy. I am thinking that Deacon is not from one of the BR hens, but out of one of the BBS Rock hens. His body type is leaner and his leg color is very pale compared to the other known sons of Ida the Tank Hen.

See the silver in the neck breast feathers on this girl that is a BSL female coloration(silver birchen pattern) from a Silver over Barring sex link mating if the father would have been a Red(gold gene) over barring then these(leakage) would have been gold/red instead. So I'd say Issac is the daddy and a barred momma not a BBS momma. Not correcting anybody here just throwing my few cents in is all.

The one I was meaning probably had the BBS mother is Delia, the barred pullet, not this black one with birchen coloring on the chest.

You could be right about the parentage of Raven, since I wasn't sure of her mother at the time of hatch, Jeff, but Raven looks exactly like Tiny, lean body type and all. Tiny is a black Ameraucana (I use that term loosely since she hatched from a blue egg out of a BBS Ameraucana flock, but has obvious Sumatra lineage). Of course, Isaac has to be the sire because he's the only rooster in the flock and the only LF rooster on the property. The one I was meaning probably had the BBS mother is Delia, the barred pullet, not this black one, though.

Here is Tiny, my Sumatra-Amerau-EE-whatever she is, the crazy hen. She isn't pure for pea comb and lays a brown egg.
