Delicate question, not sure exactly how to ask this....

I went to a poultry swap today and there was a beautiful bantam Ameraucana roo (looked like he actually was too! - DH gave a big NO

). Anyway - I asked the woman who had him "THE QUESTION". She said that fertalization was hit or miss, but the little roo seemed to think that he was effective - happy roo and no additional "wear" on the girls. He was a pretty teeny little bugger too.

We have two OEGB Cockerals and they attempt the deed with our light brahmas. They were the first to show us the dip wing dance -- reminds me of a red cape and bull fighting as they dance around. The girls are less than impressed and can throw them off easily. Funny to watch. No pulled bare feathers on the big girls here. Every once in a while are successful.

The little phoenix was a riot this morning. I've seen the wing dance many times, but he took it to new heights. He was in the brahma coop overnight. Unfortunately, or maybe not, the hen he is most interested in lives in the other coop. The second he got out and spotted her, he had both wings out and was doing a running wing dance. Reminded me of a peacock. Poor little guy got absolutely nowhere before a couple of my larger hens ran over and fended him off. Theirs is a one-sided relationship.

I'm not really interested in fertile eggs. Having turken/brahmas is enough, I don't need phoenix/turkens. So long as the hens are happy, I'm happy.

Unfortunately Sour, both my polish were lost in the predator attacks I've had lately. First little Pearl and then the roo Ozzy. No polish trahmas for me.

Turken/Brahmas? oh my gosh do you have any pictures?

Meet Sally, the oldest of my turken/brahmas - as a chick:

Pictures don't do Sally justice. She's actually very striking -current:

I have a Frizzle Cochin Bantma roo who got in with the big girls. Some of the girls would act like a bronc and toss him off over their heads. He was the one ruffling his feather then, and then strutted off like thats what he wanted to do to begin with. Other hens would wlak around with him on their backs like they either didn't know he was there, or they were trying to ignore him. If he got too far back sometimes he would fall off. Once in a while he would manage to get the deed done, because I had some eggs hatch out. I couldn't leave him in there because he was pulling out their feathers trying to hold on for the ride of his life!

Maybe you guys can help answer my question. I saw you were talking about a Phoenix roo with other hens, but like the reverse question on the first page, I wonder about a Phoenix pullet with other roos. I keep a mixed flock and am familiar with the main breeds I keep, but I picked up a Golden Phoenix pullet at the poultry sale last month just because I had the room and she was so pretty. I don't know much about the breed, and I don't plan to breed her. The seller said she was about a month from laying, but she looked much smaller than my standard birds her age. I asked if she was bantam, and they said no. I thought she might just be on the smaller side, but she hasn't grown nearly at all over the past month.

If she will be bantam-sized or very small, I am afraid she might not be able to be housed with my main flock which has a standard, Speckled Sussex roo. What do you think?
