Depression or what?

Well guys I started the corid this morning... went inside for a bit and came back out and she was just laying there. I thought she was dead but when I went to pick her up she started moving just a little. I tried to nurse her but she just didnt make it... This is all my fault I should have started the corid sooner but she was doing much better yesterday so I just didnt know. I mean maybe it was just a bad batch because I originally had three silkies and four Turkens, gave one silkie and three turkens to my sister, and all of hers died too... but all of her other bitties that were in the cage with them are alive and doing fine. It's just those ones... I dont know and I'm just beating myself up really bad cause I tried my best and it just wasnt enough..
I am so sorry.

You can't know for sure that it was anything you did or did not do. With coccidiosis, it can run very quickly through vulnerable chickens and cause a lot of irreversible damage often before you even notice a chicken is sick.

Most of us that have been keeping chickens for more than a couple years keep Corid on hand in case we notice the symptoms of coccidiosis and we start treating immediately, not bothering with making a conclusive diagnosis.

What can happen in a heavy coccidia load is the little buggers start irritating the intestinal lining and that makes it possible for bacteria to get a quick start, and the bacteria is usually of a very virulent type. So the chicken is then suffering on two fronts. This fast growing bacteria in some chickens can kill very quickly. In delicate chickens, just the coccidia alone can overwhelm them and kill quickly. This is why I stressed that time is of the essence in this race with coccidiosis. Easy to cure when caught early, but once the chicken gets overwhelmed, death is all but certain.

We all have been in your shoes. It's a learning experience. Many of my chickens have paid dearly for my learning curve.
