Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

They're making me laugh randomly

THEY'RE RUNNING AROUND!!!
I was hoping I was going to catch one of them slipping and falling again, but the ground had dried out a lot by then. They still slip a bit her and there, but no 'whoosh, splat' like the day before unfortunately

Glad you are all ok. You are all very lucky. As an individual, my home and animals were ok, but the damage around my town and neighboring towns is so devastating and heartbreaking, that I can't explain it. To see so many people in my town left with damaged homes or homeless altogether, just breaks my heart. My friend can't return to her home in the barrier islands of NJ for at least a year. This was a horrible storm and to witness what I did is menacing to ones spirit. I hope none of you had to experience and witness what my area did.

Sorry you had to go through that :( I hope everything gets settled as quickly as possible back to normal.

Let's all be distracted from the elections by a giant Round Rooster!

It has rained or been genuinely miserable out since I brought Trousers, the cochin roo, home. Since his feet are made of feathers, I wasn't keen on taking him outside in the mud.
Today it was partially sunny, and I wanted to let him get some fresh air. I took him out into my garden-- this is an area the other chickens don't go because it's fenced off separately to keep hungry deer, rabbits, and my veggie-eating chickens out! Though he looks close to the run in these photos, it's a trick of perspective. He won't be allowed near the girls or their outdoor areas until his quarantine is up.

It was a really big non-event! He had been allowed to free range before I adopted him, so being outside was just fine with Trousers. He saw the girls in their run, across the way, and paced a little and talked to them for about 2 or 3 minutes, but once he realized that it wasn't happening, he went about his business of eating grass and scratching in the compost.

His wounds have almost completely healed (fast!) so his face is handsome again.

He continues to be very, very mellow and gentle. He crows now, but it's a big deep crow, and seriously lacks the brain-shattering shrillness of my other two roos! In comparison, Trousers' crow is very pleasant.

By the way, if you are in the WNY area, I think his old owner is still trying to find a home for Trousers' brother!

Handsome boy! :thumbsup Here's hoping he works out with your girls!

I think the gene for sweetness in chickens is connected to the gene for feathered feet. My one and only feather-footed bird, Frou-frou the blue splash Marans, is the single sweetest bird I have ever owned OR met OR heard about. If that's the case, Trousers there ought to be super-duper sweet! Speaking of, how is his temperament thus far toward humans?

Aw! Trousers is quite a handsome boy! His name is befitting for his fluffy Cochin pants! I do hope that he turns out to be a nice little roo, and good friends with Derp, of course.
