Desperately need niacin and other advice

Update!

Jasper just found the strength to use his "good leg" and his wings to crawl around -- yay! This is a huge improvement for him and I'm so happy that I can share this with you all. I'll continue keeping everyone updated.

Awesome!!

Hey everyone. So jasper is eating dry food again (I should say gobbling it), and he is moving his neck more "normally," with more ease, than he has been. He is still using his wings and his good leg to move around (not too much, but enough to make mommy wonder if she's losing her mind!). His bad leg is still locked up and he doesn't seem to want to move it any. I bought some of the Epsom salts and I'll be using the warm cloth soaked in the salts for his leg today. While he still looks sick, and like his whole body is "locked up," he is definitely regaining some strength. Slowly, but surely. :)

Oh - I completely forgot to mention the biggest issue here! Jasper's body, according to the vet, doesn't want to absorb the nutrients from his food (which is why he had me double his niacin intake), and this is the main reason for his deficiency. Sorry about that!

His stool was pure green but now it's turning back to a brown color which is GOOD!

Aww so happy to hear your seeing progress. Can you gently bend Jasper's leg similar to PT where it's gently manipulated Maybe try while he is soaking in the warm water or when your doing ES compresses. Your a wonderful nurse.

Thank you :)
And yes I can bend it a little which I've been doing (like physical therapy). Like you said, I've been doing it during his bath time. It doesn't seem to hurt him at all when I do this and it does seem to be getting a bit "looser."

Thank you

Good for you. I am expecting good things out of all your doing and sounds like jasper is making great progress!!

Update:

Good news: Jasper just stood up! It was only for a few seconds and he was obviously uncomfortable, but he did stand up! THIS IS HUGE PROGRESS. I will continue with the updates, and thank you all for being here, supporting both me and Jasper. :)

Hey everyone. Jasper is still using his good leg and wings to crawl around (often). I just gave him a bath and he used his bad leg to swim with -- yay! When I was checking his leg out, however, I noticed a dark red/purple spot at the very start of his wing. After looking him over, the entire underneath of his right side, starting from this part on his wing/back, is this color. I checked his skin and it looks fine, the color seems to be coming from the feather shafts. What is this? I did notice a foul smell too, but I'm not sure if this is just "duck" smell or something serious (especially since he was in water and had been for a while). I couldn't get him to hold still for a picture, so I'll explain it this way: you know those old quill pens? The ink gets sucked up into the shaft? That's what his look like, except with a purple-ish color (maybe blood?).
