I won't sleep well on July 5th. <sigh> Guy across the street throws an annual town wide barbeque on the 4th. The his crew sets off between 20-30 thousand dollars worth of fireworks. Nope, not misprint, and not an exaggeration! I collect antique tea cups - well, I used to! The concussions have knocked several off their display shelves over the years so they are now boxed and distributed to my girls a little ahead of the scheduled time. And here in Cowley the 4th of July starts June 22 and runs until August 22! That IS a bit of an exaggeration, but everyone in town shoots off copious amounts of fireworks all summer. First we have the 4th, then we have Cowley Days July 22, where they drive around town pre-dawn and shoot off a cannon to wake everyone up. Um, it works! Then we have the Cowley Corn Cookout, also celebrated with as much noise and hoopla as possible. And people don't need a reason - if it's dark and they have fireworks left, they are determined to use them, down to the last sparkler!
Lovely little town, but NOISY!!! Love it, wouldn't change it! Maybe we need a John Wins Day in Cowley and another reason for get-togethers and noise makers!
