Yep. A neighborhood dog killed all my small flock 2 years ago, aside from two pullets that escaped over a fence. I am so sorry for your loss.

Were you able to get paid for damages?

I have chicken wire around the outside of my pens and with the electric wires nothing messes with it but I also grounded my fence so if anything was to try and climb and touched the hot wires and the fence they will know it. It will hurt but that is the idea I want them to hurt so they will learn that whatever is on the other side of the fence isn't worth getting a good zap for. Again, good luck...

Good idea! I thought about having to buy rods for hot wire, didn't think about connection to hoops! I just need to make sure my hoops and chicken wire aren't grounded. Thanks!

Alternating a hot and ground wire around a structure causes anything touching both wires at the same time to get zapped .A predator won't get zapped if their feet aren't on the ground if you only run a hot wire.

If I electrified the coop/hoops/chicken wire, would the chickens get shocked if they were to grab a grasshopper? Feet on ground, beak on grasshopper, grasshopper on chicken wire.

I would assume it would be possible but I'm not sure.

An electric fence can kill a chicken if the charger is designed to deter large animals with long hair such as bear over a longer distance say 15 miles. Running the same charger a short distance around a hoop house you run the risk of killing your chickens that touch that electric fence wire .High voltage "weed burners" can jump a fence. Here is an old thread where someone used a charger too powerful for his fence.

went out to feed this morning and could see a dog at my chicken coop. Learned yesterday this same dog and another killed another flock west of me.

Also this morning most of my Muscovy's are gone, that's 15! No feathers anywhere!

Have you gotten in contact with animal control?

Where do you live? You should probably go to your state's thread and warn people in your area about this. Find your State's thread.
And who knows, maybe someone else in our state may have an idea on what' s going on.
