Dewlap toulouse

I have four of the giant Dewlap Toulouse geese, they are about 6 to 7 months old. Only one shows any real dewlap at all the other 3 have really not begun to get one as of yet. When should they really start to display this dewlap. I know everyone will ask for pics and I will see if I can get some, but I am beginning to fret that I may have crosses instead of the real thing.

I dont have much of an idea as to how quickly these geese develop

Any chance that they will lay this season?

If they are from a hatchery they might just get a very small one if they get one at all. If they are show quality the dewlap can take years until it is fully done growing.

thank you they are not hatchery they are said to be from holderread stock.

My dewlaps were showing the dewlaps even when one could be held on one hand. (not very old)

Exhibition toulouse can take 3-5 years to fully develop and reach adult size. Yes, I would think that they would mate their first year though.

might be girls and not developed yet or just toulouse...i've had toulouse before without the double chin

It would be a bummer if they were not the giant dewlap Toulouse as I paid a nice price for them. We shall see I guess. One is fairly pronouced and the other three are just barely showing any dewlap. Maybe I have three females and one male. That would be nice. I am guessing the females would develop later than the males?

I've got the commercial grade Toulouse. Mine are 10 months old today and have started acting really goofy.

I was noticing that frozen geese sell for between $51 & $57 at Walmart.
Mine seem more than willing to fill up on grass when it's plentiful so geese seem like they must give
a really good feed to meat ratio?

I've been told the exhibition dewlap toulouse and the exhibition type embdens do not breed the first year. They take longer to reach sexual maturity.

Yes I have heard both as well. They still look quite less than fully mature that is for sure. Gander does seem to be getting grumpy however so maybe they will breed. I will be setting them up with a pool just as soon as it thaws out around here a bit.

Yikes I am tired of cold. The geese are the only animals that seem to thrive in this cold weather.
