Thank you so much for sharing that link casportpony! I can't find a vet within a hundred miles of me who will treat a chicken, they won't even test poo for me. Time to invest in a microscope and put all the previous college science courses to work!

I find that amazing! My vet clinic uses an outside lab for some blood tests, path reports, etc, and the outside lab also does fecals. Can't a local vet clinic send your bird fecals out to the lab they use for other things? Mary
Nope, I asked! Its crazy around here... you say "chicken" to a vet and they all but push you out the door and lock it behind you or hang up on you if you call! I'm in a large farming community and even asked the large animal vets and they won't help either. Is there some rare disease chickens carry that only kills veterinarians that I don't know about?!
I'll never forget the time we brought in our hen to the vet.
"Hey (so-and-so) can you triage a chicken?"
"A what?"
Or the time we brought all our chickens to the same place for boarding. Mostly we just got weird looks but one lady got excited and started telling us about the chickens she used to have. See? I'm not crazy!
HA! I called one office and asked the receptionist if their vet would treat a hen, and she said, "A hen? (then a couple seconds of silence) Is that like, a chicken??" I just said, "never mind, thanks anyway". LOL
Two years ago I had a very sick peahen that probably would not have survived the 90 minute trip to the avian vet, so I packed her up and took her to my cat/dog vet.
I did not call first because I thought they might say "we don't treat fowl". I walked in and explained she was in my car and that I really wanted the doctor to look at her and her poop.
They agreed, so I brought her in. He said that he didn't know much about fowl, and probably would really be able to do much for her, but what he knew about cats, dogs, and fecals did save my hen.
Well worth the $65 office call.

I'm in the same boat (sort of). DH bought everything we need, but we haven't set it up yet,Thanks. I'm embarrassed to admit that my first profession was a Med Tech - I still have everything i need to do this but have never done home testing...gotta get a place set up

. My microscope is in living room bookshelves, centrifuge is in the basement, glass slides in upstairs junk room.
