DH is turning 40...I still need party ideas....

I had a friend who held a 70's rec room party. Of course it helped that her parents had a rec room that was straight out of the 70's!

"Garbage" sports are good too - mini golf, bocce ball, horse shoes, pool, croquet, darts etc.

Oh honey! Black arm bands, coffin shaped birthday cake, a gift basket with Aspercream, Geritol, Centrum Silver, Depends for Men, etc...... And his gift needs to be a 4-pronged walking cane.

For the big 5-0, DH was totally in denial and tried to leave town. We had a big party anyways. The boys made a concrete slab tombstone with funny saying on it.

But the 40, love the pig roast idea. And the camping in the yard. Just don't set the cake on fire (we did).

We have lawn darts - the dangerous kind

I am willing to do the pig roast if I can figure out where to get a pig and how to do it.

He'd sure love it! I think I'd save the "over-the-hill" theme 'til his 50th b-day.

If I do a pig roast, I may do a "Roast" theme and let his friends "roast" him!

Any other ideas or suggestions either for a pig roast or a completely different idea?

Call Overland Meats. If they don't have one they can get one for you and prep it complete with an apple.)

That must be the place I heard about "in Apple Valley on Hwy 18" that has great meat (which wasn't helpful previously since that narrows it down to a zip code).

Thanks, Debi!

I'll have to call and see if they can get one and have it cleaned.

Overland can do ANYTHING. They are a TRUE butcher. And their meat is AWESOME, expensive but wonderful. Their sandwiches are good too!

A birthday party shouldn't be a pot luck. Scale the party to what you can afford, both in numbers of guests and type of food. Start watching for meat sales now; you can freeze until party time.

I agree with the over-the-hill theme, especially since it does not bother him.

I am planning on buying the food for the whole party. As I stated previously, the money issue comes into play with some of the fancy ideas that I have read online (liek the yacht parties, etc). I am just having a problem making it more special than a typical backyard BBQ since that is nothing new at our house. I think a pig roast is good start, but I want it to be memorable on a backyard BBQ budget...not a trip to Vegas budget.

Do you have a big yard? People could camp in your yard, one of the best parties I went to was a campout in the yard. No one has to drive and everyone has their own "house" already there. Pitching tents is a good ice breaker, its a vacation for everyone there!
