I think a coyote is killing my birds. I keep spare roosters and cockrels separate from my main laying flock and they free-range. I've lost 7 birds in the last 2 weeks. 5 of my guys just disappeared, I've seen a few feathers, but no blood. This past week, I saw 2 dead birds left behind and partially eaten. One was even attacked during the day. I haven't seen the culprit. Once we can establish a pattern of its behavior, we (and I mean he) can be waiting with a more permanant solution.

DH has been meaning to get one of those cameras that you strap to a tree and it takes pictures when the motion sensor gets activated. He wanted one anyway to try to catch who's been ripping down our "No Trespassing" signs and riding their ATVs through our land. But he's buying one NOW because of my coyote problem.

How can you not love a guy like that?

He doesn't even LIKE my chickens!

Here it is: (Wow, that's a huge link) He had Cabelas credit he was able to use towards it.

I think so, once it gets here. It's digital, so I'm guessing it will link with the computer just like any other digital camera. During the day, it will take color pictures and at night it will take black and white pictures (according to DH).

It will be nice to have proof, if it turns out to be a neighbors dog or something.

That is a really nice camera. How are you going to make sure it doesn't get stolen? If someone will rip down your signs and trespass on your land, they will steal a camera.

The chicken coop is about 50 yards from the house and people don't usually come that far up in our yard, so I'm not worried about it getting stolen while on coyote watch.

The lower 4 acres of our property is in some dense woods and downhill and not visible to the house. I do worry about it getting stolen when we're watching for the ATV idiots, but there's a lot of dense undergrowth and I guess I'm just hoping they don't see it. It's very secluded down there, so no one would be looking for it. One day we're going to fence that whole area in for goat pasture and I worry they're going to try to rip down our fencing.

ive used the camera many times in our mountian house in west virginia . we had a racoon trouble . they are the worst outta all the varments . they climb and will work and work dogedly to find a place to get in . we lost a white silkee when it pulled the chicken right threw a hole 2inches by 4 inches (standard cattle fence )racoons are known to pull the heads off the birds most of the time . guess it stops the chicken from screaming . the camera works great . we set a steel jaw trap and got him. just be sure you put the trap on the roof of the coop or better on the outside run (roof of wire cage ) because cats wont climb on the fencing . we have a caged in area about 16 by 16 for the chickens outside of their coop for them to roamaround in safty

They make a cable that you can put a lock on & fasten the camera to a tree..

Ewwww, I want one! I want one! I can't believe how cheap they are! But I don't want one for coyotes, I just want to spy on my dogs while I am at work all day.
