Diabetes anyone?

I've always eaten real butter and coconut oil.. And cooked several things in lard, never once supposing that was even remotely healthful

I will definitely be looking at the fermented cod liver oil... sorry... it just sounds kinda gross. How do you eat/consume it? One big spoonful with your nose plugged???? I am having horrible flashbacks to childhood

And do not eat low fat. Stop eating vege oils and other refined and fake fats, and switch to real butter, lard and raw coconut oil. Foods that actually nourish the body will go a long ways towards healing and balance.

That!

Plus add pastured chicken, pork and beef to that list. Avoid anything containing high fructose corn syrup like the plague. Stay away from processed foods. EAT REAL FOODS.

I was prediabetic, would get WILD blood sugar swings, had high blood pressure, and was obese. Low carb took care of all of it

Sure I am still chunky, but I am almost 48 and at least no longer HUGE. Hormones can make weight loss almost impossible. I am quite happy with being HEALTHY. Last time I checked my blood pressure it was 101/62. Three years ago it was 149/95!

I've been a type 1 diabetic for about 15 years now. Feel free to pick my brain. I've been through it all!

Anything high in fat can be difficult. I find it raises my blood sugar hours after I've eaten. Eggs, hotdogs, pork, bread, etc can have that effect. I still eat them, but just in moderation. I'm lucky that at least I can proportion my insulin for what I eat. I know it's a bit more difficult for type 2 diabetics.

I've always wanted to try cinnamon. Where do you get capsules from?

I paid 10 bucks for a bottle of 250 at Walmart in their Diabetic section they are made by Spring Valley.

Tonight I had a dinner with only about 20 carbs... and took my normal meds plus one BSF and two cinnamon.. two hours later... I was at 203..,.I am thinking.. holy cow.. that is crazy.. so I grabbed two more cinnamon and downed them... then I thought... hmmmmmm maybe should double check because I have three meters... the immediate repeat readings were.. 121, 123, and 112 (my Contour always runs low because it is a whole blood meter and not a plasma meter). And then I was freaking out because now I had to eat something ASAP so I didn't bottom out...so I ate a banana with peanut butter.. and just now, two hours later... I am at 126... so hopefully tomorrow morning I won't be too out of wack... I guess I have what they call dawn syndrome... my bs is always the highest in am.

Lesson learned I guess. Double check if you get an unexpected reading.

Wifezilla... what do you know about the Bernstein diet that you posted a link to. There is a whole group for him on the diabetes forum I go to.... has anyone hear tried it? Has it worked? I want to know more about it...

I have dawn syndrome real bad. Most diabetics I know experience it.

I wouldn't worry too much about a reading at 121. That's actually really good! Lately I've been sitting around the 90's and it's a great feeling. For awhile I always felt like I was low, but I've gotten used to it. These past couple of months have been the first that I've had really awesome readings. I had an A1C of 7 last time I went to the doctor. I can't wait to see what it will be next time!

I go see my doc again on the 30th and will do my labs right before then. I am really anxious to see what I have come down to. Beginning of Feb I was at 8.7 my goal is to get below a 6. I really really want to get below a 6 although I know it will take more than 6 weeks. Do you ever check a1c with the at home tests??

I didn't even know they had at home tests! My old doctor was out of the hospital and I used to be able to just prick my finger and get it tested. Now I have to actually get my blood drawn and I HATE getting blood drawn.

It takes FOREVER to get your A1C down, so don't be frustrated if it's gradual. 7 is the best I've ever been, but I was once as high as 11 when I was first diagnosed. The pump has really helped me bring it down. 6 would be awesome. That's about normal for a type 1. Probably the same for a type 2 as well, but 5 would be even better!

My dh is a T2 diabetic. He is on meds, metformin and something he takes at night that starts with a gy...
He also takes bp meds.

He is/was doing good, but put on a lot of weight fast after losing good for a year.Don't know if it is a med issue or simple lack of portion control on his part.

We found a place that does various blood tests for $5-$10 per test.Sure beats the $140 we were paying.

I saw somewhere that Metformin affect B12 levels. I wish they(cheap place) did blood tests for vitamin/mineral levels.

My dh is an OTR driver and gets no exercise. He does stock up on fresh fruit and veggies when he can get to a store otherwise it is truck stop foods.

When we first found out about his health issue I came across you tube videos of a trucker who did juicing and a vegan diet.He was really heavy, and had multiple health issues. His health greatly improved on the new diet.Lol,dh wasn't interested in my drinks but I did make a few decent meatless meals.

There are a LOT of people on various low carb forums that follow his diet. Some find it a bit too restrictive, but others are doing great. A lot of the type 2's are off all meds by following it or a modified version of it. It is all about normalizing blood sugars.

Since I was pre-diabetic and had not tipped in to the full blown diabetic range, keeping my carb intake below 50g per day works for me. Some need to go lower.
