When I candled last week, I separated the two questionable ones. Tonight, day fourteen, I can't see more than the air cells in even the blue eggs. The two questionable ones had blood rings.
I raised the humidity, and rotated where the eggs are. I still have different sized air cells. Why?
BTW, the temperature has held steady at 102.

Pennies made before 1985 have lots of copper (pennies made after are coated in copper but inside is really zinc) and copper is great at killing bacteria and keeping it at bay. So the pennies will help keep bacteria from growin in the incubator during the incubation

in theory, post 1985 pennies will work - the copper is on the outside and its surface area of copper - not thickness - atleast in my reckoning

OZ ~ you run into this yet? I know we discussed the levels for the first few days, but this has more details.....

see Carbon Dioxide: section http://www.metzerfarms.com/Articles/SingleStageIncubation.pdf

His numbers for normal atmospheric CO2 are a little off. Normal air is about 380ppm or 0.04%. He says 800ppm, but thats basically irrelevant, His point is that if you increase to 0.8% or 8000ppm you will get better cardiovascular maturity which is fascinating.

It remains a such a small number (our expired air has aprox 4.4% or 44000ppm)

I wish he tried single stage incubation in his old bators though. The other technology in his supa-dupa Jamesway incubators is surely having an impact as well. Its enough to make me keep my plugs in though.

The Jamesway recommendation is to stop turning on day 22 for duck eggs - traditionally its 25

there is always so much to learn - who needs TV to keep themselves amused when there is a world of knowledge out there to absorb?

Hey Sally! What have you gotten yourself into?? I may come over just to watch that bator with you! My goslings left yesterday & the brooder room (ie living room) is quiet & empty for the first time since Feb. : (
