My Magpies & Saxony eggs have been in the incubator for 8 days now. Half of the Saxonys are showing development (so exciting!) but only 1 Magpie seems to be developing a few look wierd. I'm posting pics of the weirdos and hoping you hatch masters can tell me if they are just cooking in there or developing :-D

you are looking at blood rigs of early death - normally associated with bacterial or poor quality eggs.

You should contact the supplier - explain that the other breed is doing well but this one did not - they may give you more eggs free

Hey all! Congrats on the hatches! I candled some of my Langshan eggs today to see how they were doing and the sampling I did showed perfect air cells and beating hearts!!!! My last two batches of shipped eggs from others certainly didn't do that good. These seriously look like I got them from under my own hen and put them in the incubator!!! So happy!! I want these babies so bad.

Sad about the snakes:(. We have those type As welI. The are more commonly called hog nosed snakes. I rescued a big one from my dogs last year. They do an insane death act when they are in danger, rolling and pitching a fit while pooping everywhere. Then they play dead. Then they just pull themselves together and leave when the coast is clear. It's a characteristic of that type of snake. Anyway, glad you told your gardener not to kill them next time...I find them in my garden too. Good for rodent control. I am sure they would be dangerous to chicks, but doubt a full size chicken would have any worries.

Quote: I'm still losing some. Three little ones in the last 4 days. I culled a sick one today. I'm going to have to cull them if they act sick until I get it handled.
I hope you get this under control soon! It's horrible losing chicks and you've lost a lot now. I'm glad you got such a fantastic hatch to cheer you up again

Hopefully that will make up for the losses a bit.

Best hatch ever so far. It's day 20 and I just put 21 in the brooder and I have two more in the bator with 5 more eggs. Sad thing is I don't know what they are. I've gotta try to remember where I got these eggs.
Awesome! How many have hatched now?

I am still feeling crappy but rested today and ran the kids for that yogo icecream place. I sold the serama and the ducks today. I had to split the brahama hatch up to two brooders, may have to do three since so many hatched. I am very pleased, no issues hatching them, great fertility awesome healthy chicks and no genetic defects at hatch so I am thrilled! I am thinking about setting the dozen serama eggs I got the past few days because I still have people wanting chicks, after that I may just sell hatching eggs.
I'm glad to hear the chicks are doing so well. Got to have something good happening! Thinking of you lots
