Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Thank you that's what I was afraid of but was hoping not. I will contact them & see what they will do. They were from eBay. The Saxony egg supplier wrapped his eggs in lots of tissues & put them in 6 pack egg carriers together. He said bubble wrap will kill the eggs. These eggs are Magpies & they were in bubble wrap, could that be true about the bubble wrap? A few of the Saxonys took a beating in shipping but are doing much better than the bubble wrapped eggs. I only bring this up because I remember reading about people shipping eggs & talking about how to keep them safe.

Not an expert here, but I have gotten exactly three batches of shipped eggs. The first two were bubble wrapped and laying on their sides in peanuts or shredded paper. None hatched. I did have an egg turner malfunction that affected the first batch. They all either developed blood rings or quit at different points. My own eggs did hatch... Anyway, who knows what other circumstances could have affected these eggs in shipping. All had trashed air cells. My last batch was shipped in memory foam mattress type styrofoam with holes cut out for the eggs, big end up. They had a foam cover as well. Air cells are amazingly intact and so far developing great. So, with that said, it could have been so many factors that killed the eggs that even though they were in bubble wrap it can't really be attributed to that alone. They were also on their sides, and very shook up....

Saw you are from Wisconsin. Send me some sweet corn. :) my wife's family is from Racine. She still has several cousins, aunts and uncles that live there. We are supposed to be coming up next month for a 30 year anniversary celebration for one of her aunts.

Someone asked about if they recommended treatment. Said to clean everything. I did. I worked on all my pens and brooders. Washed down with bleach and new beddings. Cull chicks as soon as they act sick. Don't take a chance on bunches to save one. Continue sulmet for the youngest ones.

I've had all but 6 eggs hatch so far. Of course I haven't walked out this morning yet. I think I put 30 in lockdown. Still wish I could remember where I got the eggs.
Bleach unfortunately don't kill coccidia, ammonia will though.

the foam inserts are great. I've received around 200 eggs by mail. I've had one w a hair line crack w bubble wrap and a yucky everywhere cracked egg with the foam. Personally I prefer the bubble wrap. :) but foam would be a close second.

i have had more than 900 shipped eggs. bubble wrap can be great also. as long as the eggs are stabilized in the box.

so the little shipped baby didnt make it but the one that hatched of my own is doing fine. its lonely but fine. it hasnt eaten or drank anything. Ill give it some time and a little mirrow so it dont feel so lonely.

from all 20 eggs that i put in only one hatched.

The state lab said to use 3 parts bleach to 2 parts water to kill the coccidia.

I've been told the above. But look, try both. You've done the bleach, so clean it with ammonia now. Then you'll know it's clean! One of the 2 will do the trick.

Dont mix bleach and ammonia!!!!! It's lethal!!!!
I meant separately! LOL I figured Doug would know that. Use one and then the other so you'll know between the 2 one would take care of the coccidia

I know. I was just worried someone else might not know that. :). Sorry I should have said that.
