Finally got the humidity down to 80ish tonight. My lockdown has consisted of removing the lid and wiping everything down as well as removing the eggs and pouring the water out. I start dripping when I walk outside. The gear index right now at 11 pm is 91 and the outside humidity is 76%. I decided to candle the eggs and saw movement in the first 3 so I put the lid back on. I was afraid they might of drowned. It's day 20 today.

I also candled my 3 peacock eggs. Supposed to hatch next Saturday. I'm have my fingers crossed.

I have one empty bator. One with 11 eggs on lockdown, one With the 3 pea eggs and one with 20 something eggs. I'm not buying any more eggs and probably shouldn't set any more of mine. My nests are full. I can't eat the eggs from all the mess I've given the chickens. I just hate throwing them away.

It's a daily battle. I think I'm winning now. I would have to look back to see when this started. The last two I've lost though was one today that got hung in the fence and cooked in the sun and one that got under a feed pan and cooked. They were half grown healthy chicks.
Oh no, so sorry...
I wonder about that...I've noticed chickies/hens/roos can go forward into trouble, but can't figure out how to go backwards (not trying to be funny). It's like they just stop...no back up gear or concept of reverse? Seen them just stop once their head is in fence/chicken wire....and do nothing?

Newbie hatching first shipped eggs (5 in bator and some under broodies) and quick question....if the 5 in incubator look like great air sacs at lockdown can they be moved under a broody with the rest (same incubation days) for hatch or better just hatching them in incubator like they've been?

I lost a chicken today. I think the heat was too much.

will be up early tomorrow putting up shaders and moving birds around.

Bators are whirring hoping electricity holds up going to be 110 by Saturday
i hope it was not a prize chook

At 110F it makes it hard to collect eggs for hatching. it may be better to get your andalusians next trip. hopefully odyssey as cool storage

keep cool HFR

A prize chook but not an Andy! They are handling this heat perfectly darn things look like they were made for the devils ring of fire! You'll do great in PI with them. The BAs and EEs are the only ones laying eggs! Will have couple dozen for you

Woohoo. TGIF. I'm working until noon or so. I'm ready for the weekend. I say I'm going to sleep in every weekend. I try but am usually up by 7. That's sleeping in for me. Temps are much lower today. The high is only going to be 91. By Sunday, 77 for the high. Then next week the highs are going to be high 70's to low 80's and even some nights in the high 50's. what a change.

I'm jealous. Our forecast is 106 today, Sat-106, Sun- 108, Mon- 106, Tues-104, and we are supposed to have high humidity (weird around here). It's going to be nasty!!
