I think we are supposed to hit around 111 with the heat index today. I spent the morning watering gardens, grass, pots, dogs, chickens, and kids. I just went thru and put electrolytes in the waters. I also have water bottles in the freezer for later so they can be added to water or just laid out for the chickens to lay next to.

For those of you new to chickens watch your birds in the heat.

I originally tried to stop my chickens from going under my small back porch but with the heat I've allowed them to go under there. They are only under there at the hottest times of the day so I don't think it will get too stinky.

Sally, do you lock your chickens in a coop at night or open to the run at night?

I bet they love the dirt and shade under there. Mine have a huge honeysuckle bush they crawl under.

Not Sally but my coop is open to the run all night but they are in a fenced yard with dogs running around. If you think you will have predator issues close it up tight.

I think it is supposed to be cool here saturday. Only 89. Sunday and Monday are going to be fabulous!. Hopefully

Some of my chicken news:
CAPPA SUCCESSFULLY GOT A 50% HATCH RATE WHICH INCLUDED 1 LITTLE GIRL CHICK, 1 LITTLE BOY CHICK, AND A QUAIL!!!
They are about 2 weeks old now and growing fast! And today I made them all a big yogurt/ bread/ fruit dish to munch on which they enjoyed a ton! The chicks are named Java (the hen) Mocha (the roo) ans Peanut (the quail) I will upload pics soon!
