Quote: I set every Sunday, so yes she may have set her eggs from us at the same time. Mine are dated 2/3 set. I wont take any pictures until they are fully dry and steady, not really a fan of the wet hatchling pictures or stressing the goslings by chilling for pictures. This current round of babies is looking all female

lol so much for sorting pairs to ship this week.

here are two previous hatchlings. White Sebastopol boy up front and blue american girl in back

awwww! Cochins will be so excited!

do your geese lay year round? or how does that work with geese?

Sally that is not completely true with goslings, once the veins go clear the yolk still has some absorbing to do in 99% of the hatches when it comes to geese. They really are nothing like chickens in their needs, hatching timeline or anything else. So dont get excited when the blood in the veins vanishes, because they are still attached at the unbilical and need a bit more time before they come out.

Also PLEASE note that anytime you use any antibiotic cream like neosporin with waterfowl it has to be pain relief free. The pain reliever used in Neosporin and products like it is toxic to waterfowl.

Goslings should never be removed from the hatcher until they are fully fluffed out and able to stand and hold their heads up. Again very different from chicks and will takelonger to strengthen post hatch before they should be removed.

Since this is a solo gosling, be quick to find it a gosling friend to be raised with. Solo goslings are very lonely goslings, and geese need to be raised with geese, not just chickens or ducks as their company. They graze not forage all day, so if raised only with foragers they dont grow up understanding grazing. You ask MissLydia here on BYC abot her gander who was hatched and raised by ducks (muscovy and how he came to life and changed last year when she found him a goose friend.

Thanks again!

I will give this gosling plenty of time. It's now been pipped for nearly 24 hours and I expect it to take another 24 - 48 hours before it's ready to come out.

I actually purchased 13 newly hatched ducklings 2 weeks ago and I had planned to raise the gosling with them, but after hearing this, I'll go check craigslist to see if I can find some local goslings.

Also, since it's winter here; there's no grass. So what are the best greens for goslings? Like, maybe romaine lettuce?

No geese only lay once a year, each spring. They also lay very few eggs 20-30 for many breeds is common.
oh wow so you have to set when you can! No wonder the eggs are so costly! How much does a goose eat compared to a chicken?

Well most of mine died through the night but I did notice they weren't in the right position for hatching. They all tried to pip in the middle of the shell. So what do u think could have been the cause of this?? Still have 5 that are alive with the beaks out at breathing. Hopefully one will pull through but it's not looking to good.

"Still have 5 that are alive with the beaks out at breathing."
Have hope with these as this is EXACTLY what they should do at this stage and maybe until tonight and tomorrow morn yet!
