I candled again last night and I guess I'd better start thinking about getting a brooder set up for these guys. I didn't want to tempt fate and do it before I know what's going on in those eggs. This is the first time I've set eggs from somewhere else, that I know nothing about. One concerned me a bit because I found it upside down in the egg carton. The air sacs are all fine though. Looking good so far. All 6 is developing fine. I hope they all hatch!

If anyone wondered why chicks sometimes pip at the wrong end of the egg, I did a little research and found this very interesting study:

Sally, I thought you might like to include some of that somewhere in your article, for example to emphasise why it's important to position eggs correctly and turn them etc.

I have been plagued with nightmares about temp spikes, humidity drops, and the latest the turner quit working. Each morning I run out and check and everything is fine. This only happened since I added some eggs that are high priority for me. I need some distraction. Guess it is good we are getting yucky weather today. I am going to be so busy keeping the fire roaring hot so I won't freeze that I won't obsess over my eggs.
