is squirt drinking? did you dip her beak in the water, did you add a little brown sugar to the water?Okay, I have had 11/19 chicks hatch. 1 chick (Robin) didnt make it. Squirt is somehow still alive, but the poor thing is so very weak and has lost lots of blood. I honestly don't know how he's even still alive. He still chirps and tried to move but he is so small and weak... I had another chick hatch this evening, I think she will be the last one. It's day 22 now and I candled some of the other eggs and they don't look alive at all. The other 8 chicks seem perfectly fine, fluffy, walking, running, chirping, eating, sleeping, ect. I'm really brought down about Squirt... He is in a bowl covered in paper towels in the corner of the brooder. Is there anything I can do to save him? Or would it be better to just cull the poor thing... 'Cept I don't know how to cull a chick ):
I have a rule with all my animals. When they are suffering and I feel in my gut that they're just not improving and suffering, I cull them. LOL!!!! I am glad the FF is working! thank goodness its gotten a tad warmer too, they ate less the past several days. When it was cold they were devouring it, but I would too as I even heated it up on warm days for them! LOL I noticed that first and then EGG SIZE! I was like, wait whos egg is this, LOl its funny how most times we can tell who laid what! now they dont fit into a carton!Wow... You have a ton going on Sally! So many stories just from your household. I can't believe how tiny the quail are. So cute!
Just FYI... Both the incubator & hatcher are cleaned and ready to go for the Easter Hatch. "FF" is working lovely. They jump all over me when they see me coming with the bowls. Lol! I can't believe how red combs & waddles are after feeding it for two weeks
PS - DH just asked me what I was doing and I told him I was talking with Sally. He says... Who's Sally? I told him, the lady that helped me with Yolk. He said... Uh, I helped you with Yolk!. (pure chicken jealousy)![]()
I noticed that too, but not sure if its the ff or just lack of pesty bugs to eat! lolYes, I can't wait for the warmer weather and this may sound odd... But for the bugs to come out too. Chicken smorgasbord! I'm keeping my FF bucket in the laundry room in hopes it'll stay warmer. Love the results so far. It is funny how you know which eggs come from what hen based on size & shape. I did notice that one of my gals eggs have gotten lighter in color since FF. Interesting!
