Hey Sally,

How long have you been using the antibiotic ointment for membranes? After I put it on, a few questions came to mind.

What if the antibiotic is absorbed into the blood stream? Could an overdose kill the embryo?

Maybe I'm over thinking things, but I'd love to hear you opinion on this. It definitely keeps the membrane moist for a much longer time period but maybe something like extra virgin olive oil would do the same thing.
I have used it for about 12 assists if not more, the last batch of seramas we had couldnt hatch due to thick shells and I had to do ALL of them.

ummmmm my gut says no, and do you think the percent is high enough....

OZ is a nurse of some sort, he can help with this.......

I have no idea if the percentage is high enough. It just crossed my mind and I figured that I'd mention it on the thread. 12 out of 12 chicks sounds great to me and I'll continue using it on the goose egg.

Though I'd still like to hear OZ's opinion.

she still moving and opening her mouth? how many hours has it been now? she is doing well but not near out of the woods by any means, just let her alone alone alone! when she is ready that membrane will look yellowish clear and no redness AT ALL. Ducks take over a day so goose prol longer. if she gets past this point to breathing air she has an awesome chances if you dont take her out of that shell!

Yup, she's still moving around and opening her beak. I took the top off about 7 hours ago and the membrane still looks super moist! That antibiotic sab really does work. With water, you'd have to re-moist that membrane hourly.

I internally pipped for her about 4 hours ago.

I know that she's not out of the woods. I imagine that it will take 2 full days before those vessels have been absorbed. But now that she's breathing and looking active, I'm very hopeful.

sterling I would continue to do what you did for the first one, you are the only one that knew what it looked like, when the others look like it did then do the same....

HOWEVER I dont suggest rushing them out of the shell, get them breathing and wait until tomorrow morning and see if their is any more blood.

I have found that it takes a good 24+ hrs for a chick to absorbe and acclimate AFTER the internal pip!
