Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

These are pictures of my one lonely shipped egg's saddle air cell, which is growing towards the fat end.

The first two pics is the saddle air cell between the black lines when I saw it for the first time.

This last pic is the most recent, since the duckling has grown you can't see the whole air cell as well. I got really worried at first because I only saw a little bit of it but as soon as I candled in the pitch black I could see the whole cell on top of the redness of the developing duckling. The air cell is very stationary and has actually grown since three days ago. it's growing towards the fat end so it starts just about where a normal new air cell would be at the fat end and goes to almost the halfway point of the egg. But I'm following Sally's advice and I will leave it upright in the carton for hatching.

in case you cant find it by clicking the link - i did it for you

If you feel it necessary to slightly change the temperature, hold either the up or down arrow on the thermostat for a few seconds and the set temperature will start changing in that direction in tenths of degrees. Keep in mind that thermometers can be off or change over time and should not be relied upon initially. The quality of hatch may be the best indicator as to the temperature setting after considering other factors that can affect the hatch

Thank you! Hope this helps :)

I tested my thermometer in ice water and its accurate. And in my NEW hova bator genesis
1588 digital bator it reads 92 degrees?! Can it be that off?

I have found that some thermometers can be accurate at certain temperatures while being completely inaccurate at others so I always calibrate my thermometers to 100 degrees.

The genesis 1588 is a pretty accurate incubator so I doubt that it's that far off, but anything is possible.

Test with a different thermometer before messing with your temp. I have heard ice water calibrations are not always the best way to get a accurate measure of higher temps.

Cochins-how is your gosling doing?
Still going strong!

She's very active and very vocal! As soon as I start talking, she starts talking. I feel like I already know her. It would be heartbreaking if she passed away at the point...

The membrane still has many blood vessels, so it will be a while before she's able to come out.
