Just water, the ointment I have has the pain relief in it.
oh, I did put organic coconut oil and seemed to keep nice.
I will take pics now. I need ten mins to take and post thanks.
please use caution with applying "stuff" to your chicks. No offense - but its not a day spa. I am a huge fan of the wonders of coconut products - I own a small plantation - but we use antibiotic cream because it has antibiotics in it.

OK, will do..
Thank you.
I'll share some pics when the craziness is over.

Thanks for the explanation.
the rest most likley failed due to me doing just that. guess that's why it's called lock down. I'm green to this i feel bad.
I wish I had a hen that would do this naturally

It's okay.

I, too have accidentally killed some unhatched chicks because I opened the bator during lock down too often. Newbie mistake.

I second that statement...I think we all have when we first start out...deep breath and forge on...there is a learning curve here and even the expert hatchers occasionally have difficulties, it's the way with nature and animals don't worry. Big hug to you pcreel your doing just fine!!

you are doing great for a newbie. its easy to focus on one chick. sometimes we have to act more like a mother hen and do whats best for the bunch.

next time around, you will be a real pro

I understand, but it not stuff

it is pure organic cold pressed coconut oil that you consume. Also, I added a dab of organic cold press ingestiable Castor oil which has those antimicrobial properties. Antibiotic ointment actually has a base of white petrolatum which is a chemical. Though both serve as the goal I was to reach "to keep the membrane from drying out" I chose what I did because I did not have antibiotic ointment without pain relief. So I choose something very safe. Without chemicals.
Actually petrolatum is Vaseline and in most skin care products like Oil of Olay.
I guess we all have info to share that's why we are here and I appreciate everyones insight and help.
Thank you.

)k,

Ok, so we only have to worry about this little one. the other two quit.

I checked them out and they were small with huge egg sac still. I will never add eggs only all at once. but these guys were marked the 14th????
The one in the fluid the same. Fluid was yellow brown tint. very bloody at bottom and seemed as head was twisted??

Well this chick above I think I should just let it be and see iff it will pop out on its own when its ready. its still breathing though not peeping.

I wouls hate to help it out and the egg sac be there. humidity and temp is good. I have it moistened with the cocnut oil and a little castor oil just a tad because it has properties to kill fungus and some bacteria.
Any sugestions from looking at the pics?
Thanks for all your help!!

Sorry to hear about the loss

This baby can stay like this a bit longer. Let her finish absorbing the blood etc. Just keep the membrane damp or it will stick to her fluff. Can you tell it's happened to me? LOL

So I think I need my head examined!!! I have really gone off the deep end in the chicken lover department...just ordered 25 chicks of a rare breed called Blue Andalusian....in one year I've gone from experimental chicken owner to incubator and now breeder/conservationist of endangered poultry! how did that happen? LOL anyway will let you all know when they get here.

Oz this breed is heat tolerant, winter egg layer and hardy. Also great foragers as they thrive on free ranging
Keep in touch because I will be needing to offload eggs to you!

I read an article in an old smallholding magazine just this morning about Blue Andalusions. Very interesting breed! Lucky you to get some, but I hear they are tricky to breed to get the blue colour. I wouldn't mind trying though. They are gorgeous!
