I don't think I am going to be able to finish reading 400+ posts! Happy Easter everyone! Hope laid me TWO eggs yesterday!

She was in shock for a while without making any noises at all, and just stood in place with her eyes closed, and I had to push her down so she would know it was okay to lay down. Poor thing. She is back to he old self this morning though. I didn't see her lay the egg, but I pulled her lazy self out of her cage and sat with her on the couch, knowing something was wrong when she was quiet, so when I went to put her back in her cage, there was an egg AND an egg yolk already there!

So I sat with her on the floor and gave her some yogurt (because I thought she was lacking calcium because the egg had no shell, and her comb was very pale and squishy) and she pooped out the egg whites for the yolk! After sitting with her for a while, I put her back in the cage, laying down in a blanket, and this morning, I took her out into the sun (because that was why I figured she is laying so early - she is only three months old!) and she then pooped out the shell! Holy cow! Now she is feeling better. Btw, her first egg had its own little yolk inside. She is also not on her layers feed yet, and I can get her any until maybe tomorrow or Tuesday... I will just keep giving her a little bit of yogurt every now and then. (homemade greek yogurt)

Her comb was all flopped over.

This is what it looked like in the cage when I found it. (them?)

Looks like a balloon...

And it had its own little yolk. This egg was tiny.
awww poor girl! Glad she is better now! what date was she hatched? it was Oct November wasn't it?

Has any one heard of cauterizing the membrane? I don't think I could do it, it just crossed my mind. Would it break the membrane while preventing blood loss?
I don't think I understand? What when and why would you have to?

Quote: Someone posted on FB and I grabbed it! its so cute! If I had a rabbit I would do a remake! its awesome! I think I seen it "colored in" old fashioned way they used to color pics! THAT was really cool but I cant find it!

There are now 6 eggs that have hatched and 6 more to go. But none of them show any pips or anything. The six that have hatched kind of shoved the unhatched ones into the same corner. What is your opinion on wether or not I should take out the hatched chicks. Or is it okay if they bounce the other ones around?
I replied to your pm lol

Here's an update on my end.

All 5 eggs have been opened and all 5 chicks are now breathing. CO2 levels rose very high before I decided to internally pip for them.

Only one of them was able to internally pip on it's own, and he was drowning in fluid. There was fluid in his mouth and nostrils and he was "coughing". The only time that I've seen so much yellow fluid at once was when Goosey broke her yolk sac. I think he broke his yolk sac, but there is absolutely nothing that I can do right now. The blood vessels are simply too active. I took Q tips and started absorbing the excess fluid and I accidentally broke a large vein. I smeared on antibiotic ointment and added some flour to stop the bleeding and it worked.

All of these chicks are extremely weak. It really makes me wonder about the condition of the hens. They aren't even peeping... I have never seen such weak chicks and I have hatched a LOT of chicks.

weird! usually the weird air cells and lack of space cause excess fluid loss and not the other way. If they are still breathing after this long, they should be ok if they don't get navel infections and they are given plenty of absorption time, I have noticed with the ointment use I never have to remove membranes, they always get out when they are ready as long as I cleared the air cell part of the shell away. Did you have to go digging for their beaks or were they low in the air cell?

I have one that APPEARS to have internally pipped, but I hear no chirping from the egg. I do hear a click click noise. Should I help? That last silkie that died, I though it had internally pipped but it hadn't. I don't want this one to die.
How long has it been internally pipped? Since you lost an internal pipper, and if you feel comfortable making an air hole, ease your worries and make a tiny one avoiding inner membranes and then just keep track of time and read read read the assist article and be prepared if you must help.

Does anyone know if you can delete a post you wrote yourself? I somehow ended up posting 4 duplicate posts on another thread and can't find out how to delete them.
