The kids and I went out to count how many pullets and how many cockerels we have in the NYD hatch coop. There was a cockerel in there that was hatched in November. He moved in with them when they were still in the big brooder in the barn because he didn't get along with his brothers anymore, so we just let him stay. Out of 17 chickens in that coop, 4 of them are cockerels... Not too bad...
Then we noticed this on the back end of some of the pullets..
Is this from the cockerels? The coop is pretty small for 4 of them to be in there and even though they are all young, the 4 1/2 month old's brother is definitely covering my hens... I took the older one and one other one out of the coop and temporarily relocated them to the back of my horse trailer.... I have nowhere else to put them. Pretty sure they are going to be going into a stew pot... The older one is kind of mean... I left my ameracauna cockerel and a gorgeous EE cockerel in there... I think I'll have to try to rehome the EE...
