Here's a WOW for you. This chick was assisted. It was bloody and yolk sack wasn't absorbed. It laid on a wet paper towel for a day without moving. I force fed it sav a chick for a day and it didn't move. Only breathed. I force fed it through the night and this morning and just now. It actually stood a few times when I set it down. No way this chick would live. WOW

Broody update...She failed to hatch a single chick but I had one hatch in the bator last night from the eggs I took from her. I took her last egg this morning which turned out to be dead and stinky. I gave her the chick with serious trepidation. So far they are doing fine. Chick tucked right in under her wing. I have a couple more eggs in the bator that look like they will hatch today or tonight. So hopefully I can give her a few more chicks as long as she keeps doing well.

Letting broody hens raise chicks is much easier! I'm so glad she got a baby to fuss over and fingers crossed the rest will hatch out as well. How is she? (Mom)

She seems fine. She has had eggs and grapes the last couple days. I think it has worked to get her strength back. I shoved her out of the coop into the run earlier after I took her last egg. She scratched around for a few minutes then got back on her nest. She has been eating the chick starter so not sure if she is showing the chick or eating it all herself.

turkey chicks are cute but the cuteness doesn't last long.

I hatched a set of 12 eggs all with detached air cells.

I don't think it would of never worked If I didn't have that egg turner for my incubator.

In Sallys article in her sig, it just says to up the humidity so that the air cells don't grow too quickly, so I upped it to 50 because I had loose cells and saddle shaped ones and it worked at keeping them in the normal growth rate. another great reason to simply weigh if they are very expensive or extremely important eggs, what I have found with my own bator is that I add too many different eggs both shipped as well as my own so I cant mess with humidity for each sets of eggs, so I have to go with an average of what my air cell loss looks like. and use the humiditiy as a tool that way, if they grow to fast I need to add more too slow take it away
WHAT???????????? GROW TO FAST????????????? That could be it. Does more humidity make the chick grow slower or are we talking about air cells? My chicks seem to large for the shell? They cant move!!!!!
Doug look at the links in the hatching 101 article try going into a hatch of shipped eggs from all the same person and weighing the entire rack of eggs and tracking weightloss this way and control humidity by doing this and see how much you have to alter things as you go, it may be humidity it may not!
