Quote: Chickens get coccidia by ingesting oocysts, which are immature coccidia that are passed in fecal matter. These oocysts can contaminate feed, litter and soil and survive for a year in the environment. They get spread by (amongst other things) shoes, clothing, poultry equipment, wild birds, rats and of course, already infected chickens.
So, even if your barn hasn't been the perfect environment for an outbreak (wet), it may have been introduced in one of the ways listed above. You may have been in contact with it unknowingly and introduced it to your flock?
