unfortunately I am talking with no office person, I am speaking with the Dr. herself. she is very very kind mind you, its just when I read the above stuff and I can get past some of the stuff, and she said she is willing to work with us, but I cannot get beyond the above part now. Why on earth would I put my house and property and well being on the line for a few bucks to pay for my feed and chicken stuff? I am not quite sure on the "probability" part of the above happening, but I don't like to gamble my money I would sooner go to a casino and watch others loose their money and keep my 20 bucks in my pocket. That's just the way I am. Does this make sense?
So say you aren't NPIP.

Say your chickens start dying.

Say you send a chick off to be sacrifices and tested

Say it comes back one of the nasties.

Say you have to kill off your whole flock.

Following NPIP guidelines will only make your flock stronger.

It can happen to anyone. NPIP or not. I lost several sows and 4 littlers of pigletts in 24 hours. Its the gamble us "farmers" take.

I get it. If I wasn't going to show I would not have bothered with NPIP. You have to have your bird tested before the show unless your NPIP then you dont have to go thru testing for each show. So she would be coming out and testing your birds. Interesting since my tester called himself just and old ag guy. He was not a vet.

If you are not showing your birds why do you need NPIP? It doesn't mean your birds are any healthier than anyone else. I think if I were in your shoes I wouldn't bother with NPIP. I don't know Sally. I wish I had better answers for you.

i live next door to disneyland. do you want me to send you some mini mouse ears for your goats?

I would LOVE goats with Minnie ears!!

Sally I think you need to decide what's best I agree I don't think you really need to be NPiP just to breed and enjoy your birds! I would just keep on doing what you are doing and enjoy your birds you will still gets a good price for them even without the certification! You have beautiful birds! Don't let all this junk bring you down!

Which stTes require Npip to ship eggs?
PA is what I know LMAO! Everything in and out of state has to be tested. Kaybee! you got it! I will just move! I can shove my birds in golf bags across PA lines!

What I meant is that the principles of NPIP are sound and if you sent off a bird that was sick that was found to have one of the diseases mentioned in the NPIP regs, whether you were NPIP or not, you would be forced to quarantine and potentially sacrifice your flock.

Now saying that - the chances of an outbreak that would hit your flock is so minimal its not worth worrying about. Sometimes **** happens but most of the time it does not.

Being a card carrying NPIP certified chicken owner is not that important. The requirement to be NPIP certified is not enforced for egg shippers - look at ebay for god's sakes. Just for giggles I polled 20 vendors for their NPIP number. 10 who claimed to be NPIP and 10 who did not mention it. Only 3 could or would give it to me.

I am not saying that you should circumvent the law, just what the reality is.
