Hello everyone, sorry I've been scarce lately. Stuff going on here... Anyway, I may finally be hatching something soon. I found a local breeder that has RIR, BO, as well as Blue, Lilac, Black, White and Splash Australorps for sale. (Chickens and eggs.) I'm thinking about getting some of the Australorp hatching eggs from him, but I want to get some background and more info on his birds first.
GET ON WITH IT WOMAN!!!

LOL, Oz. I want to, but I want to make sure I'm getting decent birds this time! Last time I bought from a local "breeder" I got such a bunch of mutts, after breeding them for 2 years we still didn't know what to expect when those eggs started hatching. I'll PM you a link to the guy's site if you want to have a look?

sure!

I would like to see what they have

his photos look like good birds.

I am a purist when it comes to Australorps. I like the green sheen on the black and original variety,

Strangely though anything lavender of BBS always seems to hatch well for me. I have lavender orps, blue andalusians, breda fowl, BBS orps and Jersey Giants and even a blue marans, I inadvertently hatched the BBS orps and GJ in the same basket so I am going to have to get the text books out to determine which is which once they feather out.

Thanks, Oz. I'm planning to go visit his place sometime and go have a look and decide. Knowing me I will probably not be able to resist the temptation to buy some eggs and the only decision made will be whether I'll take some varieties or all of them LOL

I haven't been able to find any fertile duck eggs yet, though I put word out through DS's school. I told his teacher I will give the kids a crash course in incubation and show them how the chicks/ducklings develop and hatch etc. She loved the idea and promised to help me look for duck eggs. If she can't find any, I'll see about getting some goose eggs instead.

duck eggs are so much fun to candle. I have 21 viable at three weeks. Pekins, Jumbo Pekins, Rouens and Welsh Harlequins.

We turned our breeding trio of muscovies into duck sausage but still have 36 of their 12 week old offspring.

I know! That's why I would like to do duck eggs for the school. They are awesome to candle and the duckling are huge fun. All 3 kids here wants me to hatch some for them already. Well, I emailed a breeder that says they have a large range of breeds available and will ship with a guarantee that the eggs will arrive intact and unscrambled (I take it that means they will send them via courier).

as i said earlier - get on with it!

good luck

I just had bernie drill the top of 2 breda fowl eggs that had been chirping but no pip for 16 hours. I have less patience on this hatch. I will have big wet chicks that may need assisting. I dont want to lose birds that are chirping.

I'm trying too! I need eggs! LOL

Good luck to you too
