I have some quail eggs in the bator too. Mine are button quail, so the eggs are tiny!! I've read lots of stuff on hatching quail, but all of it said different things. I've read to stop turning and lock down on day 13, but they can take up to 26 days to hatch?!?! I don't know if mine are even going to make it. They were shipped from across the country, and I opened one that felt very light. Most of the egg had dried out and the air cell was 3/4 of the egg - on day 5...

My broody hens are driving me crazy, I split up 14 eggs among 3. The Wheaten AM is all puffy and dancing and hissing and growling, but never sitting tight on her eggs, The lavender BR sits tight and fights everyone, The blue BR keeps switching places with the Wheaten AM, talk about air cell detachment. They are probably scrambling the eggs.

I had a request for some lemon cuckoo marans chicks. I told the lass I would keep my eye out for them.

I came across today I was the only bidder on them.

I now hope they get here by Wednesday so I can hatch them before I get on the plane

hmm... I'm not quite sure how to describe it. They can move their heads forward to eat and drink, but their natural position is folded back by their tails. They're exhibition fan-tails and they're pretty neat looking.

Here's a description: "The NPA description: The modern Fantail is best described as a softball with wings, legs, and a massive flat, circular, slightly concave tail that is carried well up, with no inclination to recline. The tail consists of 30 to 38 feathers. The legs of the Fantail are it's foundation, being well set forward, following the graceful curvature of the chest and set wide on the body to enhance it's action and stance. This breed has been described as a "bundle of energy," always moving and showing it's tiny delicate head tucked snugly in the vertex of it's rounded chest and large flat tail. There should be a constant back and forth movement of the neck, and the bird should stand on tiptoe and walk elegantly."

I never realized that marans had a lemon cuckoo variety. I think a need a few of those.
