The egg in question was from my pair of blacks. Out of about 30 eggs, none were fertile.

When I candled on day 3, I saw the ring and I thought that I finally had an embryo from them. By day 4, it was obvious that it was just a blood ring. The ring grew larger on days 5 and 6. I then removed the egg to examine it's contents.

I've cracked open 2 blood rings in my short hatching experience and both had rings attached to the membrane but no visible development and a ruptured yolk.

That sounds normal. If the embryos pass away, they begin to decay and the blood recedes to the outer ring. The yolk also begins to decay. If you were to leave these eggs in the incubator, there is a chance that they would continue to decay (causing a build up of gases) and explode. Bacteria is often involved.

The yolk of the egg that I opened was still intact so I was able to find the ovum. It appeared to be infertile.

Perhaps I'm crazy... Perhaps the cockerel managed to fertilize this one egg and the embryo passed away and decayed. But I swear I saw the white ovum...

you can leave them in as heat sinks if you wish, and remove the ones that ooze or smell bad. Are you candling every day? I have a hard time keeping up with which picture is which number because of the format on the mobile website.

I would put a wanted add in the BYC eggs section, I would post a wanted ad in the farm section of CL and also ask around on your local threads as well as post on the Wyandotte threads!

Ok, I think this thread started out as a discussion on detached air cells on shipped eggs....it has been hard to tell sometimes! Anyway, I had a dozen buff Orpington shipped to me, ALL of them had mobile air cells. I let them sit for 48 hrs, then went ahead and set them, nothing lost, right? So, they were set Saturday night. I'll try to keep my progress updated. It has been hard for me to determine the success rate vs failures in the posts here. What have y'all's experience been (in a nutshell, so to speak).

Clears - 3, 4, 6,
9, 10, and 11 are questionable, 9 looks a lot like a blood ring
Blood ring - 14, you can leave this one to see if anything changes, if it's indeed a blood ring, it will become more and more evident as time passes.

Confirmed embryo on day 3 - 15?, 16, 17

Can't see inside 18 (green egg)
And I think I see veining on 20

I would leave all of them in the incubator to help keep the temperatures stable, unless they stink or start to ooze.
